Peterhead FC v Bonnyrigg Rose Draw 0 - 0

Written by Gregor Bruce

Robbie Horn made two changes following last week's defeat to East Fife, bringing in skipper Jonny Stewart to the midfield, placing Declan Byrne up top, and deploying Scott Mercer at left back after Reis Peggie's red card against East Fife.

Bonnyrigg Rose drew 1-1 previously to Peterhead earlier this season at New Dundas Park. The Rose started the game with their best chance, Scott Mercer's curling effort going just wide of Stuart McKenzie's goal in the 9th minute.

The Blue Toon began strongly in the first half, creating chances through Hamish Ritchie and Joe McKee, but none troubled Paddy Martin in the Rose net. Rose came close once again through Ross Gray firing just wide of the top right of the Peterhead goal in the 20th minute.

To start the second half, Peterhead's Alfie Stewart received a second yellow card and was sent off for an early exit. The second half didn't present many clear goal-scoring opportunities for both sides, resulting in a defensive stalemate.

Declan Byrne came close to giving Rose the lead in the 61st minute after a beautiful half-turn manoeuvre, followed by a powerful effort from the edge of the area, landing just too central to Stuart McKenzie.

Paddy Martin was called into action late in the second half, denying a double-shot effort from Peter Pawlett in the 77th minute. Rose controlled most of the possession for the remainder of the half through the back four and midfield but couldn't add the finishing touches inside the final third.

The Rose faithful will take positives from this result as it puts them just above East Fife in 5th place in the table.
