Bonnyrigg Rose advanced to the next round of the Scottish Cup in tough conditions at Albion Rovers

Bonnyrigg Rose faced off against Albion Rovers in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup in a competitive encounter at The Reigart Stadium.

Robbie Horn lined up with same side the defeated East Fife 4-2 earlier on in the week at New Dundas Park, with the change in shape and personnel proving to be effective on Tuesday evening.

From the opening whistle, Rose displayed their intent, with Lee Currie and Reis Peggie launching probing long-range efforts within the first 15 minutes.

A crucial intervention from Callum Connolly kept the scoreline level as his block prevented Niyah Joseph from finding Paddy Martin's top-left corner, thwarting Albion Rovers' attempts to gain an early advantage.

The first half concluded on a high note for Bonnyrigg Rose as Smart Osadolor, facing his former team, was brought down in the box. Neil Martynuik calmly converted the ensuing penalty, propelling Rose into the lead just before halftime and continuing his prolific form from the spot so far this season.

Early in the second half Albion Rovers would apply immediate pressure as they went in search of an equaliser, with chances coming through Niyah Joseph and Joe Bevan but both weren't enough to trouble Martin in the Rose net.

The second half saw wave after wave of Albion Rovers attacks but they weren't able to do much with the ball.

As the game progressed, chances materialised for both sides, with Joseph and Bevan continuing to threaten. In the dying moments, Joe Bevan had opportunities to level the scoreline but couldn't provide the finishing touch, ensuring Bonnyrigg Rose's place in the hat for the fourth round draw later on this evening.

Reis Peggie earned the well-deserved title of Man of the Match, exemplifying outstanding work rate from the left-back position, contributing both defensively and offensively.

Bonnyrigg Rose will be looking for something similar to the inspired performances from this week when they make the trip to Ochilview to take on table-toppers Stenhousemuir.
