Rose required extra-time to secure a win in tough conditions against Fraserburgh

Bonnyrigg Rose were in Scottish Cup action for the first time this season as they made the long trip up north to face Highland League side Fraserburgh in the second round. Robbie Horn made 4 changes to the side that defeated Clyde at NDP last weekend, with Conor Doan, Callum Connolly, Bradley Barrett and Alieu Faye all coming in for Taylor Sutherland, Kerr Young, Liam Buchanan and Reis Peggie.

As expected, there was incredibly windy conditions at Bellslea Park which meant whichever side was playing with the win would have had the advantage, and the Broch used this to their advantage in the opening periods of the game as they dominated the ball.

The first chance of the game would fall Bonnyrigg's way however as some nice linkup play in the midfield allowed Barrett so send a cross in that just barely evaded the onrushing Faye at the back post.

Robbie McGale provided the first test for Joe Barbour as the stopper got down low to deny the low drive.

It was a first-half lacking in clear-cut chances, but the second-half would see the intensity levels rise.

With the wind playing a factor, chances were few and far between and it wasn't until the 80th minute in which Barbour's punch from a cross fell the way of Angus Mailer who unleashed a deadly half-volley to put the Rose in front.

Rose just needed to hold firm for another ten minutes plus stoppage time, but that Rose resolve would break in the 92nd minute as a Ryan Cowie free-kick from just outside the area went through the wall and into Paddy Martin's bottom-left corner.

That late blow would mean extra-time would be required in Aberdeenshire, and it would be another Rose stunner that would secure passage to the third round as Bradley Barrett's effort from way out sailed over Barbour and under the crossbar.

The Broch went in search of an equaliser but to no avail, with Bryan Hay being dismissed late on for a poorly-timed challenge on Callum Connolly.

Bonnyrigg Rose will find out their opponent's for the Scottish Cup third round tomorrow evening at 7;30pm, with the draw being available to watch on the official Scottish Cup YouTube channel.
