Defeat in Dumbarton

Written by Gregor Bruce

Rose entered the game with their last meeting being a 1-1 draw at NDP in January. Bonnyrigg lined up with changes from last week's defeat to Clyde, with Joshua Grigor making his first appearance after a long absence, Neil Martyniuk returning after suspension, and Lee Currie brought back into the starting eleven.

The game started slowly, with both teams creating little early on. In the 25th minute, The Sons changed momentum by drawing a penalty, which Tony Wallace converted to give Dumbarton a lead. Hilton nearly extended the lead after cutting from the left and striking the far corner, but Paddy made a brilliant diving save.

Martyniuk had Rose’s best chance of the afternoon, narrowly missing the top right corner with his half-volley effort from a Lee Currie set piece outside the box in the 36th minute.

Dumbarton took control of the ball in the second half, creating more chances primarily through Finlay Gray and Carlo Pignatelio. Blair Malcolm closed the game by doubling Dumbarton’s lead with a simple finish from a crossed delivery from Finlay Gray.

The Rose faithful will be hopeful of a promising result away to Stranraer at Stair Park next Saturday.
