Bonnyrigg Rose welcomed the visit of fourth-placed Dumbarton to New Dundas Park, Rose's first home match of 2024 after 3 games on the road. Robbie Horn made 2 changes to the side as he looked to spark a reaction from last weekend's defeat at Clyde, with captain Jonny Stewart and Ross Gray coming into the team at the expense of Callum Connolly and Dean Watson.

The opening stages of the game were really scrappy, but Neil Martyniuk showed a real bit of quality as Rose struck first on 11 minutes as he powered home a header from a Lee Currie corner, beating Rangers loanee Jay Hogarth to the set-piece and putting Rose a goal in front.

Dumbarton began to show their teeth as they went forward in search of an equaliser, but efforts from Blair Malcom and Finlay Gray failed to trouble Paddy Martin, who was awarded player of the match for his shot-stopping exploits on Saturday afternoon.

The away side started the second-half the better side with an early effort from Tony Wallace being well-saved at Martin's near-post. It would be Carlo Pignatiello who would get the equaliser for Dumbarton just 3 minutes into the second-half as he prodded home following a stramash in the Rose box.

He very nearly had a second a few moments later but Martyniuk was on hand to hammer his effort off the line. Dumbarton continued to surge forward in the latter stages of the game but Rose did well enough to ride out the game and secure a precious point after a defeat in their previous game.

Bonnyrigg Rose will turn their attention to Scottish Cup action next weekend as cinch League 1 side Falkirk look set to provide a stern test.
