Bonnyrigg Rose were unfortunate to not have taken their chances in the first half as two quick fire second half goals for Elgin City saw them succumb to defeat in the Highlands.

Bonnyrigg Rose faced off against Elgin City who have been tough to beat at home so far in the cinch Scottish League 2.

Bonnyrigg started the more composed of the two teams with some great build up from the back from Neil Martynuik and Josh Grigor.

Elgin had chances in the first 10 minutes through Robert Jones and Ross Draper but chances came evenly in the first half coming from both sides not being able to finish in the final third.

Angus Mailer was brought down in the 6 yard box but nothing was given by the referee.

The best chance of the first half for Bonnyrigg was through Liam Buchanan as he found himself one on one with the keeper but his effort was straight at Thomas McHale, with Ross Gray's rebound being deflected behind for a corner.

Elgin City scored early in the second half in the 48th minute through a curling effort from Rory MacEwan beyond Paddy Martin. The Black and Whites struck again soon after quick succession in the 61st minute as Connall Ewan got on the end of a cross to provide the final touch to divert it beyond Martin and put the Black and Whites two to the good.

Rose struggled in create opportunities in the second half as Elgin held a deep defensive line making it difficult for chances to materialise despite Rose having three forwards on the park at one point.

Rose's best chance of second fell the way of Josh Grigor as Rose piled on the pressure, but once again McHale was on hand to deny Rose. Elgin were denied a 3rd goal in the last ten minutes for offside but the game would finish 2-0.

Rose will look to bounce back from back-to-back defeats when they welcome the visit of Forfar to New Dundas Park.
