We’re back on the road this weekend after last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Stranraer. An evenly matched contest that was made difficult by the strong winds battering Midlothian, Rose went ahead on the half hour mark through a Neil Martyniuk spot kick. Just as it looked like the points would be staying in Boomtown, with 83 minutes on the clock, after failing to clear a set piece, the ball broke to Deryn Lang just inside the area and he rifled it past Paddy Martin. Albeit a disappointment to lose a late goal, boss Robbie Horn conceded that a draw was probably a fair result over the piece and felt that neither team done enough to win the game.

Just like Stranraer, Forfar are another opponent that we enjoyed success against last season remaining unbeaten in all four encounters. Rose began life in the SPFL by hosting the Loons on opening day, running out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Kevin Smith and Scott Gray. That was followed up with consecutive 1-1 draws, both of which involved dramatic late Rose equalisers through George Hunter and Keiran McGachie respectively. The final meeting between the sides at Station Park in April went the way of the Rose as a Neil Martyniuk penalty was enough to bring the points back down the road.

As for this season, Rose have five points on the board after three games following one win and two draws. Forfar meanwhile have accumulated two points from a possible nine following two 0-0 draws with Stenhousemuir and Elgin respectively before a 3-1 defeat at Dumbarton last weekend. Having enjoyed a successful Viaplay Cup group campaign, Forfar were paired with Elgin City in the next round. That tie was played the midweek prior to their visit to Dumbarton with that match also finishing 0-0 with Ray McKinnon’s men eventually losing out on penalties.
