Confirmation of application for membership of the Scottish Football Association

As many supporters will already be aware, but to ensure that all supporters are before it enters the public domain via other means, the club can confirm that it has applied for membership of the Scottish Football Association.

What's the process?

Explained in a bit more detail in answer to a question from a supporter in our forum here. In essence membership will only be granted once SFA entry level license status has been attained.

Why is it important for us?

Several reasons. We need to have a license in place by 31st March which is the deadline set by the Lowland League in order to gain promotion to the LL, so in the scenario where a team wins their conference and subsequent round robin playoffs and are declared overall East of Scotland champions, they will only go forward to the playoff with the South of Scotland Champions (subject to that team also having a license) if they have attained a license by said 31st March deadline. At this moment in time there are only six clubs in the EoS leagues that meet this criteria; Linlithgow, Preston, Burntisland, Coldstream, Hawick and Lothian Thistle HV. We are among several other clubs competing in the EoS leagues trying to meet that deadline. Our feeling is that if the players can achieve the above scenario based on footballing merit, we should be able to reward them by making them eligible for promotion.
Having a license also allows member clubs access to the Scottish Cup each season & each member club receives an annual payment from the SFA. This is not subject to the 31st March deadline.
This is something that we have worked on for several years, our six year journey to this stage has been documented previously here and here and it is a tribute to our supporters, sponsors, playing squads, management teams and committee that we are in a position to apply as you have all collectively got us here.

When will you find out if you are successful?

As contained within the forum mentioned above, we need to follow due process, but we will hopefully know our fate one way or another before the March 31st deadline and as usual we will let our supporters know first on the outcome.

Hopefully the above explains where we are just now. As usual if any of our supporters have any further questions just pick up with Charlie, Bob or myself at any of our games and hopefully we'll be able to provide some further clarity. Alternatively supporters can contact me here. There won't be any further public comment from the club on this matter until we are in a position to do so, in line with the above (rough) dates.

Regards
Brendan
