Thoughts from the manager on the past seven days.

Super League Champions!! Best achievement of my football career!!

Finally we got over the line last Wednesday against Camelon and I think that the first feeling was one of relief that we had finally got there. Over the next few days the realisation of what we had achieved started to sink in with the unbelievable amount of text messages and phone calls I received congratulating us on our success. The clubs Twitter and Facebook pages also went crazy for a few days and we are all very grateful for the well wishes and support we have received not just from the Bonnyrigg supporters but management, players and supporters of other teams, it has been quite incredible. Being a Wednesday night we were unable to celebrate after the game the way we would maybe like but we certainly made up for it on Saturday with our free week and a great day was had by all especially the Hibees that were there!!!

The game itself, against a Camelon team that was down to the bare bones, was never in doubt and we dominated from start to finish. Camelon made us work hard for it though and we had to wait until just before half time for the first goal which was stunning strike from Ruaridh, his first of the season, leaving the outstanding Al Horne as the only outfield player yet to score this season. The other two goals we scored were top drawer too especially the third goal from big Kiddo who played the ball wide and got himself in the box to score the header. We are also very grateful to Andy and Dougie Penman who usually cover the highlights for all the Penicuik games and had agreed to cover the game for us. Highlights of the game and the celebrations afterwards were superb and will provide great memories for everyone connected to Bonnyrigg Rose for many years to come.

I have been lucky enough to play for my country, play for my boyhood heroes, been involved at big games at Parkhead and Ibrox and was captain the day that Berwick Rangers won the then 3rd Division but as I say this is the best achievement of my football career. To manage a superb group of players with ability, great attitudes, desire and real character has been an absolute pleasure and they deserve all the plaudits that they get. To see the joy that winning the league has brought to the players, supporters and in particular the committee has been fantastic and fills me with real satisfaction and great pride.

The support I have received from Charlie, Brendan and Bob Dickson has been unrelenting and greatly appreciated and something I will never forget. These guys work so hard for the club that they love and are never away from the ground always doing something. There are many others too including old Ray, Pauline & Andy, Ian & Helen, Marie, Julie, Bob senior, Alex Mills (who looks after the best grass pitch in the East Region) and Alistair who does the team sheets for me every week home and away, all great people who do their best for the club. At this point I also have to mention the superb backroom staff in Dave, Jim and Danielle all of whom have been of massive support to me and we have worked well as team.

Winning the league makes you hungry for more success and we won't be resting on our laurels as we look to take the club forward again next season. However we also want to finish this season on a high and we have a semi final to look forward to tomorrow night away at Linlithgow. It's a really difficult game and no doubt they will be desperate to get one over on us after what happened last time we were through there but the players are buzzing and we feel there is real momentum behind us. Kelty or Penicuik will face the winner of our tie in the final while we also face Penicuik in our final home league game on Saturday for which we hope there will be a big turnout.

All the best and thanks again for all your support!
