Wednesday night sees us play our first league game in Conference B to face Tranent Juniors.

There will certainly be some familiar faces in both the opposition dugout and team when we visit Foresters Park. Max Christie won the SuperLeague as manager with the Rose in 2012 and his management team of Ian Black and Finlay Wells were part of Alan Miller’s SuperLeague winning backroom team of 2009 (Blackie was also a player with Bonnyrigg once upon a time). On the playing side Ryan McCallum, Chris Gray (twice) and Dean Whitson all had good spells at NDP, with Chris and Dean having signed for Tranent during the summer. There isn’t any doubt who the Belters’ most high profile signing of the close season has been, with ex Scotland cap Ian Black finally able to get on the pitch for Tranent after issues with signing him during the course of last season.
Tranent have had an impressive start to the new season, with resounding wins in their qualifying league campaign/Alex Jack cup tie and much like ourselves, have four wins from four played. They would have expected to finish higher up the premier league than they did last season but they did still reach a cup final, having won both regional cups the season before.
Bonnyrigg will go into the game also full of confidence after safely negotiating Saturday’s Scottish Cup preliminary round tie at Hawick. On the playing side neither Hoskins or Brown were risked on the Albert’s tough terrain and Swanson also returns to the squad from holiday, so the manager has practically a full squad to pick from. There’s always a good crowd when we play at Foresters Park and expect it to be no different tomorrow.
